Victoria Secret Runway Show 2011 [Complete Recap]

Victoria’s Secret’s $12 million annual fashion show took place in New York on Wednesday night (we’ll get to see it when it airs on CBS on Nov. 29), and it featured, well, lots of fantasy lingerie no real woman will ever wear. Like the gold-plated wings worn by Alessandra Ambrosio that were decorated with 105,000 Swarovski crystals and that weighed 22 pounds, or the $2.5 million, jewel-encrusted bra shown off by Miranda Kerr [below] The event featured music from Maroon 5, Kanye West and surprise guest Jay Z.

A new broom at Hermes, as Christophe Lemaire took the design helm for his debut collection, where he steered the house on a journey through Asia, drawing influences along the way with his Oriental-inspired silhouettes, representing a sharp change of direction from the signature equestrian themes played out by his predecessor, Jean Paul Gaultier. And a smart move indeed, given the new shift in territories for the luxury-goods sector.

If Etienne Aigner’s autumn/winter collection didn’t have quite the je ne sais quoi that the 70s-fuelled spring/summer showing had, it was a neatly rounded look all the same,  with more subtle 70s references via longer lengths and new proportion play.
